Let your father and your mother be glad,
Proverbs 23:25
and let her rejoice who gave birth to you.
We’ve spent a lot of time on the negatives between mothers and their adult children. Now let’s look at some practical and happier scenarios. What will make a mom happy and full of rejoicing when it comes to her adult children. Will it surprise you that most moms aren’t most interested in if their child has a massive cash outlay or if they have climbed their way to the top of their profession? Of course, we want our kids to reach their full potential and enjoy the fruits of their labors. But, in fact, I think most moms would rejoice and be glad if an adult child listens to and follows even a handful of God’s directions in Romans chapter 12. Here are just a few…
Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. (Ro. 12:2)
Do not think more highly of himself than he out to think; but to think so as to have sound judgment…(Ro. 12:3)
Let love be without hypocrisy. Abhor what is evil; cling to what is good. (Ro. 12:9)
Be devoted to one another in brotherly love; give preference to one another in honor; (Ro. 12:10)
Rejoicing in hope, persevering in tribulation, devoted to prayer, contributing to the needs of the saints, practicing hospitality. (Ro. 12:12-13)
Bless those who persecute you, bless and do not curse. (Ro. 12:14)
Rejoice with those who rejoice and weep with those who weep. (Ro. 12:15)
If possible, so far as it depends on you, be at peace with all men. (Ro. 12:18)
Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good. (Ro. 12:21)
Come to think of it…this is a great list for us moms as well as our children!
