How long, O naïve ones, will you love being simpleminded? And scoffers delight themselves in scoffing
Proverbs 1:32
and fools hate knowledge?
A follow-up to Day 30
I wanted to combat foolishness a bit with God’s wisdom about fools from the book of Proverbs. And I pray these blogs have been somewhat enlightening and educational and challenging as they have been to me, which I shared on Day 30. I pray we, including me in this ‘we’, will throw out our fool’s box on a daily basis, which I think is necessary. And, that we will do a lot more wisdom thinking before we speak or act. I pray that we will be able to do that process quicker because we live in a lightning speed world and it is hard to keep up and not be a fool in the madness!
Discernment, also, has got to be foundational with us. Good old-fashioned discernment is what is needed in our churches, our schools, our communities. It is amazing to me how many ‘band wagons’ people will jump on and start sprouting all kinds of nonsense when they haven’t even done any research, not even cursory Google searches, into what they are screaming about. I find myself being so easily pulled in and that cannot be and serve my Savior faithfully and to my fullest ability. It is getting harder to not be sucked into the foolishness of the world.
I think we would all be amazed at just how many of the out of control and violent protests that have happened in every decade of my lifetime, and are happening right now, that are full of people who don’t even know what they are protesting about! They throw rocks and break down doors and steal and damage and they cannot even articulate why they are doing these things. It bogles my mind. So many fools being led into unprofitable mob behavior.
Sadly, the local church is not a whole lot better. Foolish church-goers (I won’t call them Christ-followers until I see spiritual fruit) spread gossip and slander haphazardly and the damage is so devastating. Supposed Christians teaching in classrooms that mix the American Dream with The Gospel confusing generations of all ages and leading many astray. All because both teacher and student have not taken the time to dwell in the knowledge and understanding and wisdom of our Lord Jesus Christ. They truly are blind fools leading other blind fools.
God, please do not let me be blind!
We can do better! We must do better! God will help us do better…if we are wise! Let’s be that!
God will be God whether we are wise or a fool! We must choose this day which we will be!
Joshua 24:15
If it is disagreeable in your sight to serve the LORD, choose for yourselves today whom you will serve…but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.
