Even a fool, when he keeps silent,
Proverbs 17:28
is considered wise; when he closes his lips,
he is considered prudent.
I know I beat this drum a lot, but it needs a lot of drumming! There are millions of fools out in cyberspace that need to realize that their 1 millionth like on some celebrity’s post and their #5,000 comment on a political pundit’s video means absolutely nothing! Well, nothing except more money in the pocket of the publicist who actually did the posting. You do know the big wigs don’t do their own posting 90% of the time, right? Not even a certain former president.
Trust me! As a self-published author/writer, I know how important likes and shares and comments are in the cyber-world. But, I also know it is a fool’s game! I also know that it is…what it is. There are no other viable options in today’s world to make a living or make any kind of impact about anything or for anything than to hop on the World Wide Web Train. Thus…I am here and so are you. For that I am SO grateful.
But, it is all just foolishness! Foolish for anyone to think that their ‘Like’ or their ‘Share’ or even their ‘Comment’ will change anything about anything; especially when the numbers get up into the stratosphere of hundreds of thousands and millions. Does anyone really think that their comment out of thousands is being read by even one other person? And don’t even get me started on the whole algorithm thing deciding what we see and hear; even in the comments and shares.
Talk about chasing the wind! And the whole world is doing it!
No one is silent! No one keeps their opinions to themselves! No one closes their lips online!
Or So It Seems!
There is a shift. Small and hardly noticeable in all the noise. But a shift! A silent few who refuse to become part of the cyber nonsense. It isn’t that they aren’t on social media or searching Google for information. But what they are doing is controlling the Web, both for themselves and for their families. They are using discernment, wisdom and understanding as they navigate through the social media jungle.
Social media is not going away. Google and Amazon and…and…and…are not going away! But we do not have to let them dictate what we read, what we listen to and even what or who we worship. We do not need to engage with thousands of other voices fighting with each other over ever topic under the sun. We do not need to add to and forward and share information that we don’t even know if it is true.
What we can do is to use these phones and these screens within the full counsel of God’s Word and with the wisdom and power given to us through the Holy Spirit and for the purpose of sharing the Good News of our Savior Jesus Christ!
Stay in the Word!
Stay on your knees!
Stay in this moment for His sake!
Stay silent and Be Heard!
