Truth Primer: God Save the King

31 Days

Loyalty and truth preserve the king,
and he upholds his throne by righteousness.

Proverbs 20:28

“God save the King” is an anthem chanted and sung for centuries. But do humans really believe God can save a king or that a king wants to be saved by the One True God? I think a good question for the ages, including our present age. Though human kings and queens are rare in modern times, we do have plenty of presidents, dictators, aristocrats and on and on: each trying to out think and out play the others in the worldwide society we find ourselves living in. Is there any ‘king’ of ‘queen’ ruling a nation today that is loyal to The Truth and The Righteous One? If there is, this person is not well known…at least not yet.

My husband always says the culture of any corporation or business or industry is developed and cultivated from the top down. In other words, the working environments and the employee relations are reflections of the heart and character of the CEO and other members of what is known as the C-Suite. If greed and power is all these leaders care about, then greed and power is all their employees will care about and the work place will basically be a daily dog eat dog nightmare for their employees.

However, if the owners and leaders of a company care more about the quality of a product or service and if they care more about customer satisfaction, including their own employees, then their company’s well-being will be healthy and strong and the daily grind is not a grind at all for their staff of every level. And, interestingly, this company’s bottom line is likely to be quite profitable and on solid ground.

The same is true for the 195 countries currently operating in our world.

Solomon writes…

Proverbs 20:8

A King who sits on the throne of justice disperses all evil with his eyes.

Proverbs 29:4

The king gives stability to the land by justice, but a man who takes bribes overthrows it.

Ecclesiastes 4:13

A poor yet wise lad is better than an old and foolish king who no longer how to receive instruction.

Ecclesiastes 5:9

After all, a king who cultivates the field is an advantage to the land.

And Peter tells us…

Submit yourselves for the Lord’s sake to every human institution, whether to a king as the one in authority. Honor all people, love the brotherhood, fear God, honor the king.

1 Peter 2:13 & 17
