He who speaks truth tells what is right,
Proverbs 12:17
but a false witness, deceit.
My summary of today’s legal system: Supposed corrupt suspects being defended by corrupt lawyers and being prosecuted by corrupt district attorneys and being judicated by corrupt judges who oversee corrupt jurors! I don’t think that is too far of a stretch and it is nothing new under the sun.
Matthew 26:59-61
Now the chief priests and the whole Council kept trying to obtain false testimony against Jesus, so that they put Him to death. They did not find any, though many false witnesses came forward. But later on two came forward, and said, “This man stated, ‘I am able to destroy the temple of God and to rebuild it in three days.’”
Jesus faced false witnesses often. Lawyers, priests, and Romans all tried to twist His words trying to entrap Him. Even to the very end of His life on earth and after His resurrection, those who wanted to discredit His rightful and truthful deity, told lies and spread deceit. These self-righteous do-gooders had no problem with twisting words and giving false witness and being just downright deceitful. It was expedient for them to do so in order to protect their own standing within the Jewish quarter.
And we do the same thing today. Any lie can be expedient, any false testimony can be ratified, any slander can be disseminated as long as the end result is obtained. All sides of political aisles do this. All corporate headquarters and financiers do this. Sadly, even many within our churches will lower themselves to do this, if it saves their power and standing within a congregation.
Let it not be so with us!
Ephesians 4:20-25
But you did not learn Christ in this way, if indeed you have heard Him and have been taught in Him, just as truth is in Jesus, that, in reference to your former manner of life, you lay aside the old self, which is being corrupted in accordance with the lusts of deceit, and that you be renewed in the spirit of your mind, and put on the new self, which in the likeness of God has been created in righteousness and holiness of the truth. Therefore, laying aside falsehood, SPEAK TRUTHTO EACH ONE OF YOU WITH HIS NEIGHBOR, for we are members of one another.
