Proverbs 3:3

Here we go! We’ve searched for the foundational principles of Wisdom and Heart in the The Proverbs so far and have learned so much both compelling and convicting. This month we tackle Truth! We may be tempted to believe that the argument about ‘What is truth?’ is new to the current culture, but we have to go all the way back before the beginning of time here on Earth; before Adam and Eve to find the first being who said; “I want to follow my truth!”

Are you surprised? Who put the idea into Eve’s head that God was holding out on her? Who prodded her to question God’s truth? Who tempted Eve and then Adam to regard “My truth” as more relevant, more culturally acceptable, and more in tune with who they were as independent perfect human beings?

Genesis 3:1-4

Now the serpent was more crafty than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said to the woman, “Indeed, has God said, ‘You shall not eat from any tree of the garden’?” The woman said to the serpent, “From the fruit of the trees of the garden we may eat; but from the fruit of the tree which is in the middle of the garden, God has said, ‘You shall not eat from it or touch it, or you will die.’” The serpent said to the woman, “You surely will not die! For God knows that in the day you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”

The history of Satan before time was created is actually rather short as given in the Bible; the only reliable place to get such information. Satan, also known as Lucifer, was the first created being to embrace himself as a god; in other words, he idolized himself. In so doing, the only course he could take was to make up his own truth because making oneself an idol to worship did not jive with Yahweh’s Truth! Sound familiar? And even after being cast out of heaven by The I AM GOD; Satan continued and will continue all through this earthly timeline, to make up his own truth which he then convinces God’s special creation known as human beings, to believe, as truth, all his fake news. 

This ‘angel of light’ even convinces humans that he, Satan, doesn’t exist nor does hell or the Lake of Fire or Heaven or even The I AM! He has so twisted the facts that humans believe they are an end to themselves, that their personal truth is the only truth that matters and they…humans…are gods unto themselves. The Father of Lies has been very good at reaching his goals; false goals though they be and doomed for destruction. 

Isaiah 14:12-15

How you have fallen from heaven, O star of the morning, son of the dawn! [Lucifer] You have been cut down to earth, you have weakened the nations! But, you said in your heart, ‘I will ascend to heaven; I will raise my throne above the stars of God, and I will sit on the mount of assembly in the recesses of the north. I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will make myself like the Most High.’ Nevertheless, you will be thrust down to Sheol, to the recesses of the pit. [Mine]

Created, originally, as the Star of the Morning, Satan did not keep a tight grip on The Truth and he still refuses to do so! He knows his eternal end is horrifying in the Lake of Fire. He knows God wins and is winning now! (We would do well to remember that truth!) He has always known who Jesus is and who is the Holy Spirit. They were one with God the Father, as they always have been, when Satan was created and when he fell from heaven. Satan, of all us created beings, knows the Truth! But he rejects it, makes up his own truth and is stubbornly clinging to his own fake news. Why? 

Because he hates The Truth!

Not who created truth. Not who has truth just in him. Satan hates The Truth…The I AM! 

Our Triune God is Truth! And, just like Eve, we either accept that or we don’t!
