Heart Matters: Reflections

As in water face reflects face,
so the heart of man reflects man.

Proverbs 27:19

I admit it! I am not a fan of mirrors, especially the makeup mirrors with those obnoxious super bright lights that highlight every single flaw on my face! I just don’t like that kind of scrutiny, even though it is just me looking in the mirror. All I see are my many flaws (perceived or real) and that there isn’t enough makeup in the world to fix them all!

And so, it is with this verse! The close-up scrutiny of Scripture that reflects my true heart is just too much to take in and deal with! When I read the Bible or hear a sermon or try to research and write these short blogs, I am overwhelmed! God’s Words are Truth Itself! His Words are omniscient, omnipresent, and so very all-powerful! His Words are for the whole world, but at the same time written just for me! And, that is most overwhelming of all!

For now, we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face; now I know in part, but then I will know fully,
just as I also have been fully known.

1 Corinthians 13:12

That’s why those who remain blind to the Gospel work so hard to not look at their own heart-reflections in the mirror of God’s Words. It is just too devastating and immobilizing to face; let alone try to deal with honestly. So those who reject Christ, try to blackout their heart-reflections with anything and everything. They remove all the mirrors of God’s Words.

“Let them alone; they are blind guides of the blind. And if a blind man guides a blind man, both will fall into the pit.”

Matthew 15:14

No ten commandments anywhere. No biblical language in their laws or contracts or even marriage vows; which aren’t even vows anymore or covenants. They rewrite or reinterpret whatever they cannot remove completely from society. Then they repeat in a constant 24/7 loop the rewrites which are no longer Big “G” God’s Words, but their own made up little “g” god’s words. The little “g” god being themselves. And cancel culture prowls around like the roaring lion of their Father, the Devil, seeking to destroy any attempt to proclaim God’s True Words! Overtime the rewrites are accepted as a truth that fits into whatever any individual wants their ‘g’ god truth to be. How convenient. How freeing. Or so they believe in their blindness.

The wicked have drawn the sword and bent their bow to take down the afflicted and the needy, to kill off those who are upright in conduct. Their sword will enter their own heart,
and their bows will be broken.

 Psalm 37:14-15

How can feeble little me look at my heart reflections through God’s Words? How can I face the truth about my heart and have any desire to take one more step to move forward with life?

Well, without Jesus Christ’s work on the cross and His glorious resurrection…I can’t!

But, God!

Luke 4:18-21

“THE SPIRIT OF THE LORD IS UPON ME, BECAUSE HE ANOINTED ME TO PREACH THE GOSPEL TO THE POOR. HE HAS SENT ME TO PROCLAIM RELEASE TO THE CAPTIVES, AND RECOVERY OF SIGHT TO THE BLIND, TO SET FREE THOSE WHO ARE OPPRESSED, TO PROCLAIM THE FAVORABLE YEAR OF THE LORD.”

And he closed the book, gave it back to the attendant and sat down; and the eyes of all the synagogue were fixed on Him. And He began to say to them, “Today this Scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing.”
