Heart Matters: Self-Absorbed

Everyone who is proud in heart is an abomination to the LORD; assuredly,
he will not be unpunished.

Proverbs 16:5

Very strong language here from the LORD and His opinion, the ONLY opinion that matters, about the proud of heart. Today, we simply let God speak about pride!

Pride’s Temptation

Psalm 36:11 Let not the foot of pride come upon me, and let not the hand of the wicked drive me away.

Psalm 40:4 How blessed is the man who has made the LORD his trust, and has not turned to the proud, nor to those who lapse into falsehood.

Psalms 73:2-3 & 6 But as for me, my feet came close to stumbling, my steps had almost slipped. For I was envious of the arrogant as I saw the prosperity of the wicked. Therefore, pride is their necklace; the garment of violence covers them.

Pride’s Consequences

Proverbs 15:25 The LORD will tear down the house of the proud, but He will establish the boundary of the widow.

Proverbs 16:18-19 Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before stumbling. It is better to be humble in spirit with the lowly than to divide the spoil with the proud.

Proverbs 29:3 A man’s pride will bring him low, but a humble spirit will obtain honor.

Pride’s Location

Mark 7:21-22 For from within, out of men, proceed the evil thoughts, fornications, murders, adulteries, deeds of coveting and wickedness, as well as deceit, sensuality, envy, slander, pride and foolishness.

1 John 2:15-16 Do not love the world nor the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the boastful pride of life, is not from the Father, but is from the World.

Pride’s Future

Isaiah 2:17 The pride of man will be humbled and the loftiness of men will be abased; and the LORD alone will be exalted in that day.
