Wisdom Calls: Build It

31 Days

By wisdom a house is built
and by understanding it is established.

Proverbs 24:3

Wisdom is not stagnant! This is a key take away for me as I’ve dug dip into this amazing life principle. I am either building up wisdom within my life or I am letting wisdom crumble to pieces either by misuse or by none use. Wisdom does not stand still…it does not stay in neutral…it does not just hang around. Wisdom very often can be a two-steps forward and one-step back experience, but, be assured, it will move! Hopefully, wisdom will have more movement being forward and upward than sliding backwards or with downward spirals.

I’ve learned that godly wisdom is the foundation for all the other building blocks we use to build our lives for good and for the Gospel and God’s eternal plan for us. Everything from remembering to not run out in front of car as a child, to eating healthy foods throughout life, to studying to show myself approved in moral issues; relies on the foundation of godly wisdom.

I’ve also learned that sometimes a wise person will think foolishly, but hopefully, toss that foolish thought aside. And sometimes a fool will have a wise thought and maybe even act upon that thought. It is easier than we think for a wise person to become a fool and it is hard work for a fool to become wise.

A foolish person can learn to be more and more wise, though I am convinced that can only happen when a foolish person turns their life over to Christ as Savior and become a new creation. God tells us that His wisdom is foolishness to those who do not believe. And God tells us that the world will see us as fools as long as we name the Name of Christ and seek His wisdom. So true in today’s world.

Conversely, a wise person can become a fool through neglect or a life turned over to sinful ways. I don’t think they lose all the wisdom they have gained, I just think they are blinded by that sin that so easily besets them and they become a fool where that sin is concerned. Solomon is actually a good, though very sad, example of this very thing. His sexual lust with over 600 wives and concubines was his blind spot (to say the least) which ultimately destroyed his household and his godly legacy.

Jesus gave a wonderful and practical picture of the repercussions of being a wise person vs being a foolish person. It is one even a fool should be able to understand.

Therefore everyone who hears these words of Mine and acts on them may be compared to a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell and the floods came, and the winds blew and slammed against that house; and yet it did not fall, for it had been found on the rock. Everyone who hears these words of Mine and does not act on them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. The rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and slammed against that house;
and it fell—and great was its fall.

Matthew 7:24-27
