Counsel is mine and sound wisdom;
Proverbs 8:14 (Part 2)
I am understanding, power is mine.
Not only is wisdom powerful within man’s framework of kings and rulers, she is powerful from before the beginning of time and in God’s design of Creation! I love these verses in chapter eight describing Wisdom’s intimacy with Creator God and the astounding account Wisdom gives of the first three chapters in Genesis!
The LORD possessed me at the beginning of His way, before His works of old. From everlasting I was established, from the beginning, from the earliest times of the earth. When there were no depths I was brought forth, when there were no springs abounding with water. Before the mountains were settled, before the hills I was brought forth; When He made firm the skies above,
Proverbs 8:22-31
when the springs of the deep became fixed,
when He set for the sea its boundary so that
The water would not transgress His command, when He marked out the foundations of the earth; then I was beside Him, as a master workman; and I was daily His delight, rejoicing always before Him,
rejoicing in the world, His earth,
and having my delight in the sons of men.

Why wouldn’t I want to have even a fraction of this wisdom that is the very essence of God! To have free access to the very heart and mind of God through my saving relationship with His Son-Jesus the Christ! Through God’s wisdom I can detect fake news more quickly and discern true righteousness from man’s version of what is right. In wisdom I can cast my vote based on biblical principles and not on each candidate’s marketing schemes.
In wisdom, I can rightly delegate my finances, budget for now and invest for the future with full assurance that when I fill out my 1040 income tax each year know I have been honest and faithful and then, even in thankfulness, give unto Caesar what is Caesar’s and unto God what is God’s. That’s hard to do sometimes and our tax system screams of the unjustness of a warped democracy. But, in wisdom, I know that God has placed my family in this time and season and in this country for His purposes.
In wisdom, I can raise my children from a biblical worldview and train them up in ‘the way they should go’, but also, in wisdom, God’s Word tells me that my adult children must make their own choices, in spite of my shortcomings as a mom and my many sins and mistakes in raising them. Wisdom tells me that I am not responsible for the consequences of my children’s own choices. And wisdom also tells me that I must move forward in each of my children’s lives with mercy and grace and love as the hallmark of my interactions with them. I am responsible for those relationships as they are now.
These and so many more of the interwoven threads of my life can be protected and covered by the same Wisdom of God that powered the Creation of the whole universe!
Yes, Please!
