Wisdom Calls: Bundle It

31 Days

I, wisdom dwell with prudence,
and I find knowledge and discretion.

Proverbs 8:12

The call within today’s advertising is; ‘Bundle It’ and that call to action often works. We mortals like to take advantage of a bundled deal. But are those bundles really the great value the advertising splash professes. We know big corporations aren’t going to lose money even in their bundles and the ‘terms’ may be more restrictive than we first realize and the products may be subpar leaving us underwhelmed and underserved. But, we like those bundle deals and keep coming back for more!

Not so with wisdom! God’s wisdom is the complete and ultimate ‘bundle it’ deal! When we commit to seeking godly wisdom, we receive a huge bundle of amazing and effective fundamentals to aid us in every aspect of our lives and not to just survive this life, but to thrive! We’ve seen these fundamentals bundled with wisdom in most of our previous wisdom verses.

Let’s look at these bundled companions to wisdom and their definitions more closely by using their definitions in a modern sentence.

Understanding: Hebrew Word: bina (H998) “Act, Faculty, Object, Personified”

Sheila showed great faculty of mind when she acted upon her many hours of training (objects) in firefighting and saved the townhall. Without her quick thinking (wisdom personified), many lives would have been lost and an historic building destroyed.

Knowledge: Hebrew Word: da-at (H1847) “Perception, Skill, Knowledge”

[Don’t you just love when the definition of a word uses the word being defined? To help us with the word ‘knowledge’, I think it will help to use its antonyms in a sentence.]

Fred unwittingly turned onto a one-way street going the wrong way. When he realized this, he ignorantly tried to back up unaware of the police vehicle behind him.

Discretion: Hebrew Word: m-zimma (H4209) Thoughts, Intents, Purpose, Plot, Devices (evil)

[Again, we will use some antonyms in our sentence.]

Alice purposed to improve her mind with daily Bible reading. But, she spent many more hours watching wicked and lewdTV shows confusing her thoughts and emotions.

Prudence: Hebrew Word: arma (H6195) Shrewdness, Craftiness, Guile, Subtilty

[Often we don’t associate these definition words with prudence and godly wisdom. Usually we think of some who doesn’t have moral ethics to be shrewd and crafty. But as Christ-followers, we need to be ‘wise as serpents and gentle as doves’.]

Mark succeeded as head coach at his school because of his shrewd team training and crafty play calling.

Wisdom is not weak! It is strong and cunning, purposeful, and skillful!
