For wisdom is better than jewels;
Proverbs 8:11
and all desirable things
cannot compare with her.
After Solomon’s rhetorical question in verse one of chapter eight, he makes his case, again, for the importance of living wisely. Then in verse four, God inspires him to give Wisdom her own voice and he switches to using the first person POV. It is a delightful narrative from Wisdom’s own voice as she moves throughout the world and through history building her case as the foundational standard for successful living while on Earth. Basically, God is saying, “I am not just wise; I AM Wisdom.” Let’s hear Him speak…
To you, O men, I call, and my voice is to the sons of men. O naïve ones, understand prudence and, O fools, understand wisdom. Listen, for I will speak noble things; and the opening of my lips will reveal right things.
Proverbs 8:4-10
For my mouth will utter truth; and wickedness is an abomination to my lips. All the utterances of my mouth are in righteousness; there is nothing crooked or perverted in them. They are all straightforward to him who understands, and right to those who find knowledge. Take my instruction and not silver,
and knowledge rather than choicest gold.
It is rather appalling to set these verses of wisdom’s standards side by side with today’s western cultures’ standards. Wisdom calls for prudence, I doubt most humans even know what that means, let alone live it out. Even back when I was in high school (in the dark ages) being called a prude was derogatory, not a compliment. And oh, how much worse our depravity in the current ‘modern’ and ‘enlightened’ age we live in!
Add to that the shocking lack of anyone in authority, especially in government, who speaks what is noble and right. Where are the statesman of old (men or women) in our political spectrum today? Neither political party can boast a foundation of honesty and respect and noble and right things! Famous people, and even not so famous people, who actually do speak of noble and right things are now demonized viciously and rapidly all-over social media and too often succeeding in canceling those who seek and use God’s wisdom.
Truth and Righteousness vs. wickedness and crooked and perverted!
Jesus warned in the last days…

For false Christs and false prophets will arise and will show great signs and wonders, so as to mislead,
Matthew 24:24
if possible, even the very elect.
Fake news, anyone! Oh, how we need God’s Holy Wisdom in these days! We must value it more than silver or gold and treasure wisdom’s authority and protection over us!!
